The views are worth the climbs
I've completed the marathon and half several times, the new course is fun and fewer bottlenecks, same spectacular scenery, superb friendly volunteers (and plenty of them!) great aid stations (felt like there were more than before? with CAKE!) Take hydration, take your time, enjoy the day - we will be back
One of the best races in Sussex
Stunning views .
Fabulous trail. Plenty of water stations & very well stocked aid stations !!!
Lovely finish line back in the park , where the Town crier gave me my medal !
Great trail run
Fantastic event! Really well organised and marshalled. Good amount of aid / water stations. Wonderful running through the beautiful South Downs. Easy to follow tracks and a nice balance of level, downhill and climbs. Some of the climbs are steep but that’s what it’s all about. It’s challenging but rewarding.
Great friendly event.
Great first hilly trail run!
I don't mind saying I was a bit nervous as this was my first hilly trail run - but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The organisation was great, the mood was good and the course was well marked out and staffed. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a challenging run in beautiful surrounds.
Very well organised
Great amount of aid stations, marshals etc
Excellent organisation but a very very very tough course
The organisation is excellent, good place to start and finish, lots of help and water stations and friendly cheering from the start to the finish, cannot fault anything in that sense.
But the course is tough, I mean ** REALLY HARD ** so don't try unless you really want a challenge, you have trained for it and you think you can cope with this. There is more than 1,000 metres of vertical climb (and of course 1,000 to go down, sometimes quite steep). Luckily there was no rain so no muddy or slippery surfaces to sort out, but very rocky and rutty in parts so not very kind on your ankles. This year was not as hot as others so it may be tougher still.
A wonderful challenge
Very good trail run focused on majority wide chalk trails.
Beautiful route, friendly marshalls, good number of well stocked aid stations
should make clear that parking onsite is very limited and consider more help for people finding space after the car park was shut.
A trail marathon with awesome views
Just two little suggestions to make it perfect:
1. A couple more signs near crossing on the last 10km - I (first time runner) and a couple more people had to take out the phones and check our maps.
2. Self-operated water dispensers to fill water bladders / bottles at the stations (like the ones at start).
Views are stunning, marshalls lovely, and 9am starting time very welcome.
Tough and challenging
At 74 I only started running just over a year ago This was my 5th half marathon Tough but probably no more than Beachy head half. But I loved it and had a great day Thankyou
The Three Forts Challenge delivered everything its reputation promises: tough hills, stunning views, and a community atmosphere that makes every mile feel worthwhile.
This is not a race for the faint‑hearted — the climbs are relentless — but the payoff is huge, with sweeping scenery that distracts you just enough from the burn in your legs.
A special thank you goes to the two gentlemen who helped me through the final two miles, keeping me moving with good humour when things were getting gritty. Moments like that are what make this event feel so special.
The organising team, marshals, and support crew were excellent throughout. Aid stations were varied, well‑stocked, and perfectly placed, and every volunteer seemed genuinely invested in getting runners to the finish.
The overall atmosphere was incredibly supportive, with a real community feel. And for anyone who appreciates a bit of pre‑race emotional support, the course and start area were full of friendly doggies providing goofy, positive vibes — a surprisingly effective cure for pre‑race nerves (assuming you like dogs, of course).
A fantastic, challenging race that rewards every ounce of effort you put in. I’ll be back.
Great race! Would enter again
The half marathon was a little longer than 13miles and long queues for toilets and numbers but overall a great event and gorgeous route!
Super event 5 mile/half marathon and full marathon
Love everything about this event. Thé challenging course, thé fab views, thé food stations , thé cakes at the finish and the freindly atmosphere. One point I think could improve this event tho is More signage out there, some tape too. There were a few of us in the half and full marathon wondering which way to go à few times on the course.
Best trail half ever.
Really glad you changed the finish so spectators could cheer us in. Not so keen on the extra mile!
Great event, great route, great challenge
For a trail race excellent a readonable amount of strength as its hilly especially the lung buster!!!
Maybe a few more marshalls on the course(i can be one)!
But a very excellent race thoroughley enjoyed it,thankyou
A first ever half for me, but what a great one to pick, challenging but rewarding
Beautiful views and the self accomplishment you feel after is worth it!
Few turns at the end i had no one around and had to Google maps the way to cissbury ring!
